Valentino Rossi had seen the new Ducati GP12 virtual version on the computer when the team visited the factory in Bologna. Nonetheless, "The Doctor" immediately felt a radical change on the Desmosedici sure it will provide a significant impact so that Ducati would be more competitive in the 2012 season.
Rossi will get the first opportunity to evaluate the Desmosedici GP12 in Sepang, Malaysia, on 31 January. Because that's when the first day of official MotoGP test of 2012.
The new motor will feature a modified version of the framework of conventional aluminum twin who used Rossi at the end of the 2011 season. It is believed, the new Ducati V-angle engine 1,000 cc has been shortened to help mass centralization and weight distribution.
Last season, Rossi and teammate, Nicky Hayden, often complain about the problem of feeling in the front-end as well as difficulty controlling these motors. The results achieved by the two former world champions were each only one time on the podium when finishing in third place.
Speaking at the press launch of Ducati in 2012 in Madonna di Campiglio in Italy in the morning, Rossi said that the last generation of the bike is much different from the prototype GP12 is riding in the post-season testing at Valencia last November. 32-year-old rider was deeply curious about using the new engine in Malaysia on 31 January.
"I think, certainly the first test will be very important. Motor will be different compared with last year so it may not competitive from the first test because I think we'll get some good information to prepare for the first race. Back to the year 2011, we've been trying to shorten GP12 development time. We've seen the old motor in which we have many problems, but unfortunately we also have many problems on the GP12. So, we began working to solve problems encountered and we have a hybrid between the two motors. "
"Now Filippo Preziosi has been modifying and designing a totally new motor to solve the problems we faced during the last season. I know they've worked hard and I go visit them and I've seen a new motor on the computer. Apparently, the bike was very good. So, we are very curious to try it soon so I can understand how it works, and see if we can solve the problem and shift the balance of the motor.
"I'm not worried, but optimistic and confident and can not wait to try it. When've tried it, I would prefer a better understanding of where we were. Last season we changed the motor in the mid-season, but next year things will get better planned."
